Collages
Displayed below are three very different commissioned collages. Each composition depicts a deeply personal portrait of the subject, combining photographs with other artists' materials and techniques. |
A Family Collage
The circular collage is an intricate and meaningful depiction of the subject's life in which the spiral design indicates each aspect of life as it unfolds for a young, single man as he progresses to marriage and having children.
Remedial Teacher
This piece above, on the right, was commissioned by a school as a farewell gift for a remedial teacher. She specialized in Dyslexic Children and many of the images contain twists, complications and reversed imagery, depicting the learning difficulties she tackled with her pupils. Her charismatic character and influence on the children is evident to all who knew her and is portrayed in this collage.
Shylene's Kitchen
The piece below, on the right, was done for a charismatic cook’s commercial home catering company and depicts the subject's bubbly personality and her love for food, wine, humour and chillies! |
Décor
This page also includes a number of images relating to décor and interior design. The rough earthy materials available to me in Zimbabwe have often become features of a mosaic floor, a wrought iron bed design, a banister, a beam or a carved door. I enjoy exploring the potential of paint finishes, natural wood, wire, rope, tiles, glue, gesso and cement and I am inspired by a multitude of natural resources.
Designing our home in Victoria Falls was a great outlet for my artistic energy - there are hidden doors, gold walls and curves, the banister is a giant root I collected from the bottom of the Zambezi gorge and stretched into shape with oil and chains. The mosaic floors (also featured on my mosaic page) are rich and decorative like Persian carpets, imbedded with railway sleeper wood, silver frames, stones and beads.
Colonial Gentlemen
These tall gentlemen look stunning standing in waiting beside a door, in a dining room or just making a lovely feature in any corner. They are beautifully painted to suit many different tastes and homes. Order the height, colours and design to suit your setting. |
Train Office
I transformed a discarded and burnt out Rhodesian train caboose into a dynamic tourist office for Wild Horizons Adventure Holidays in Victoria Falls. It was an exciting commission and inspired carved doors, cable banisters, a painted kayak, mosaics and the scrap metal sculptures that are also featured on the sculpture page. |
Frame Mouldings
The coloured strips below are taken from handmade, decorative frames - gesso and mixed media on wood.
