MISCELLANY
An old gasket becomes a pair of shorts, a salad server becomes a nose, an exhaust becomes a torso - automobile, TV and cell phone parts , old watches, dials, washing machine drums, everywhere I look I see my pieces and they speak to me and I build my sculptures!
The Marabou storks, vultures and baboons of Victoria Falls ignore me as I search the rubble dumps for treasures.
In the past I have worked in clay (see Miscellany) and enjoy the tactile language of creating through touch - sculpture was my first love and it's language is still the basis for much of my two dimensional work.
Scrap Men Sculptures
These larger than life sculptures were commissioned by Wild Horizons Adventures to represent the adventure products available in Victoria Falls (i.e. rafting, canoeing and high wire). They were built mostly from automobile parts and they stand in the centre of Victoria Falls town outside the WildHorizons Office. Initially their heads were wooden masks from the Congo, but I later gave them an upgrade with empty gas canisters with hair styles fashioned from electric wire and telephone cord! Tourists pose for photographs besides the Giant Adventure Scrap Figures.
